Dianggap Identik dengan Virus Corona, Cafe de Coral Menolak Customer Berlatar PRT Filipina, Begini Penjelasan Manajemen
HONG KONG – Tidak bisa ditampik, beberapa waktu belakangan, keberadaan PRT asing asal FIlipina di Hong Kong bagi sebagian orang akan membawa orientasinya pada virus corona varian mutan yang nota bene berkategori lebih menular dan lebih berbahaya dibanding varian induknya.
Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut, beredar kabar melalui jejaring media sosial informasi yang menyebut Cafe de Coral menolak customer berlatar PRT asal Filipina.
Kabar tersebut bersumber dari postingan akun facebook John Richards.
Dalam postingannya, John Ricard menuliskan unggahan dalam huruf kapital sebagai berikut :
“AND SO IT BEGINS, HONG KONG HELPING THE MOTHERLAND TO SHIFT THE BLAME FOR COVID ONTO FOREIGN DOMESTIC HELPERS.
CAFE DE CORAL A POPULAR FAST FOOD CHAIN HAS STARTED TO BAN FILIPINO DOMESTIC HELPERS FROM EATING IN THEIR RESTAURANTS. HELPERS ARE BEING TARGETED BY THESE DISGUSTINGLY RACIST INDIVIDUALS AND GETTING AWAY WHIT IT. THIS WAS ALSO THE SAME TACTIC USED IN THE MAINLAND AGAINST AFRICAN STUDENTS AND OTHER NON CHINESE.
HELPERS ARE BEING ASKED BY CAFE DE CORAL STAFF IF THEY ARE FILIPINO BEFORE ENTERING.
THIS IS WHAT RACISM LOOK LIKE. THIS IS THE TRUE SPIRIT OF HONG KONG.”
Hal tersebut sudah barang tentu memantik respon berbagai kalangan terutama yang berlatar belakang PRT asal Filipina.
Betapa tidak menyakitkan, jika sampai ada screening di pintu masuk menanyakan latar belakang kewarganegaraan. Jika customer yang datang berlatar PRT asing asal FIlipina, maka penjaga tidak akan memperbolehkan PRT tersebut makan di dalam restauran Cafe de Coral.
Menanggapi unggahan yang viral tersebut, pihak manajemen Cafe de Coral mengeluarkan pernyataan yang berbunyi sebagai berikut :
“The Group is highly concerned about rumours regarding Café de Coral banning Filipino domestic helpers from entry, which are absolutely unfounded and untrue. We have reported the case to the Police and reserve the right to pursue further action against relevant parties.
We aim to offer an array of nutritious and high-value meals to people from all walks of life. As always, customers of all ethnicities and backgrounds are welcome at all our branches. Our goal is to ensure that our staff deliver quality food and service to all of our customers.
The branches of the chain restaurant group often appear in the list of outlets visited by COVID-19 patients throughout the epidemic period in Hong Kong.”
Seperti yang disampaikan oleh manajemen dalam pernyataannya tersebut, Cafe de Coral menyatakan bahwa unggahan yang viral tersebut tidak benar dan merupakan kabar bohong. []
